Welcome to 7th Grade
Language and Literature
In 7th grade Language and Literature, students will build upon the foundation laid in sixth grade, developing new skills for deeper literature analysis, more extensive research and strategies for deepening understanding of nonfiction text. We also examine the concept of theme in literature and explore how authors develop themes in their narratives and other texts. Using mentor texts, seventh graders will study author's craft and learn to develop their own voices as writers. We engage in whole class book study, learning more about World War II history through the novel Milkweed, contemporary issues of race and diversity through the novel New Kid, as well as poetry from both classic and contemporary authors. Students also engage in peer-organized book clubs within the class and meet regularly for reading/writing conferences with their teacher to further their own goals for reading and writing.
Math
Lincoln Lancers have the privilege of teachers who base their teachings on the needs of their students. Students are placed into certain math classes depending on their individual needs. MS Algebra 1 (Big Ideas “bright” Purple textbook)
Students learn about the second half of the 8th grade common core standards and all the High School Algebra 1 common core standards. These students have completed Math 7/8 (see above) and have teacher recommendation for this course. Once the course is completed, students will have high school credit on their transcript.

Science
Seventh grade science is all about the life sciences. Ecology, biology, evolution, genetics. That means we get to do a bunch of labs to explore the world around us! We get to see how ecosystems work, the way energy transfers between living organisms, how organisms change over time, we discover the genes that make people look and act the way they do, and how living things are organized by the smallest unit of life- a cell. We firmly believe science is best learned hands-on, so get ready to learn science this year by being involved in it!
Individuals and Society
At Lincoln, Individuals and Societies (also know as Social Studies) is divided into three courses, one at each grade level. 6th Grade focuses on Western Hemisphere World Geography, 7th grade is Eastern Hemisphere World Geography, and 8th Grade is U.S. History. All three courses are taught using the Colorado Academic Standards for Social Studies and assesses using the Middle Years Program, MYP Assessment Criteria.
As stated on the International Baccalaureate website, Individuals and Societies “…encourages learners to respect and understand the world around them and equips them with the necessary skills to inquire into historical, contemporary, geographical, political, social, economic, religious, technological and cultural factors that have an impact on individuals, societies and environments.”
