Students identified as Gifted and Talented (GT) in any area are placed in a GT specific, grade level advisory class. This class meets daily, and is taught by a teacher trained to assist students in crafting their advanced learning plans and support them in meeting their goals. The class includes a social/emotional curriculum specifically designed to help GT students improve skills such as stress management, achievement motivation, coping with challenge, developing empathy, and developing talents. Students will also have the opportunity, time, and support to complete a passion project of their choice.
Students identified as GT in math are placed in advanced math classes based on their level and needs. Students identified as GT in reading and/or writing are placed in advanced English classes that use English curriculum specifically designed for GT students.
Any student who shows potential for giftedness may be referred for identification by a parent or teacher, and could be identified in middle school if they meet the criterion specified by the state of Colorado and Poudre School District.
