At Lincoln, we believe music is a language that everyone can learn and enjoy. Whether you're picking up an instrument for the first time or continuing your musical journey, there's a place for you in our music program!
We offer three year-long music ensembles, each providing students with the opportunity to grow as musicians, collaborate with their peers, and perform for the community. Every ensemble presents at least two concerts each year. Students are encouraged to build on the skills they develop in class by participating in additional musical opportunities both at school and throughout the community. Beyond our traditional ensembles, students are also encouraged to create and participate in music clubs based on their interests.
Beyond our year-long classes, we offer Modern Band and Drama classes as well.
To ensure every student has access to music, Lincoln provides instruments for families who need them. Students may borrow a school instrument for as long as they are enrolled at Lincoln. Those who play larger instruments, such as the bass or tuba, are provided with one instrument to use at school and a second instrument to keep at home, making practice more convenient.

Band
Band is the perfect place to learn a new instrument, make friends, and perform exciting music together! No experience is needed—just bring your curiosity and a willingness to learn. Students who have played before are welcomed and are vital leaders to our groups.
Sixth-grade students can choose from flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, baritone, or percussion. As students continue into 7th and 8th grade, even more instrument options become available.
Bands are grouped by grade level so everyone can learn and grow together. Throughout the year, students perform in at least two concerts, giving them the chance to share their hard work with family, friends, and the community. Join Band and discover how fun making music can be!
Orchestra
Love music or want to learn something completely new? Orchestra is a great place to start! No previous experience is required, and students with experience are encouraged to help inspire and support others as section leaders.
Sixth-grade students can choose to play the violin, viola, cello, or bass. Orchestra is offered at two levels: a beginning 6th Grade Orchestra and the advanced Lancer Orchestra, which combines 7th and 8th grade musicians.
As an orchestra student, you'll develop your musical skills, work together as an ensemble, and perform beautiful music in at least two concerts each year. Whether you're dreaming of playing your favorite movie soundtrack or performing on stage with friends, Orchestra is the place to begin your musical adventure!
Choir
Whether you already love to sing and want to challenge yourself and improve your skills or want to build your confidence as a singer and find your voice, choir is the right place for you. No experience necessary to join, although students with previous experience are welcomed as crucial members of the group who help to lead.
In choir, students develop fundamental vocal techniques for healthy and expressive singing, learn basic music reading skills, including note names, rhythms, and musical symbols, as well as develop teamwork and collaboration skills through ensemble singing.
If students choose to continue in choir throughout their middle school career, they will be able to develop their music skills further by exploring increasingly complex musical concepts and skills, as well as explore a wider range of challenging and rewarding music
Drama
Step into the spotlight—or behind the scenes! Drama is a fun, semester-long class where creativity, teamwork, and imagination come to life. Whether you love acting, building, designing, or creating, there's a place for you.
During the first half of the semester, students explore the world behind the curtain by working on backstage projects such as set design, costumes, and other elements that bring a production to life. In the second half of the semester, students develop acting skills through theater games, improvisation, scene work, and character development.
No previous theater experience is needed—just a willingness to try something new and have fun! While there are no performances outside of class, students have plenty of opportunities to showcase their creativity and build confidence.
Modern Band
Modern Band at Lincoln is for students of all musical backgrounds who want to learn to play popular music genres. Whether you've never touched an instrument before or have some musical experience, this hands-on course will get you playing in a band setting right away.
Students focus on learning the fundamentals of playing common modern band instruments such as guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, and vocals. You'll learn basic chords, rhythms, and techniques specific to your chosen instrument. More importantly, you'll learn how to play together as a band, focusing on listening skills, collaboration, and creating awesome music.
If students choose to continue in Modern Band throughout their middle school career, they will be able to develop their music skills further by exploring increasingly complex musical concepts and skills, as well as explore a wider range of challenging and rewarding music.
