John Misuraca

6th & 8th Grade Science Teacher

My name is John Misuraca Jr.  I was born and raised in St. Peters, MO which is a suburb of St. Louis, MO.  I had a peaceful public school experience as a kid and was deeply entrenched in sports.  During my senior year of high school my interest in education and the sciences heightened because of a particular class with Mr. Greg Ulmer.  Mr. Ulmer was creative, high-energy, he wore tons of bracelets and had a giant boa constrictor in  his room.  His activities grabbed my attention and his ability to form relationships with students was evident, and seemingly easy.  He was a mentor and I decided to pursue education as my field of study at the University of Missouri - Columbia.

I achieved my Bachelors Degree in Secondary Science Education in 2001 and did my student teaching at Parkway North High School.  That was an excellent experience and I began the interview process.  Simultaneously a friend of mine was recruiting me for an entry level position in Industrial Sales and ultimately I accepted a position, which turned into a 20 year career.  It was interesting as far as sales goes because I was able to design projects, travel to rarely experienced places (ie. mines, refineries, construction sites, the oil field, etc.), and lead a team during the execution of my projects.

My wife and I started talking about moving to Colorado (Fort Collins in particular) in 2001, got serious about it in 2009, and moved here via my sales career in 2013.  We love the open sky, the sunshine, the access to nature, the small town feel, etc.  My wife Debra works in higher education and is employed at CSU.  I have two children...Ramona is a 6th grader at Lesher and Mara is a 1st grader at Riffenburgh.  My family and I travel back to St. Louis frequently to see our families.

I’m so excited to be a first year to teacher, to work with your children, and to be an ally for them.  I believe I have something that students feel they can almost instantly open up to.  I care deeply, I bring humor and energy, and I want the sun to shine on ALL of my students.
