International Service Learning at Lincoln

7th grade students have the opportunity to participate in a service learning trip to a foreign country.  The past several trips have been to Costa Rica through the local travel company No Barriers.  While traveling, students participate in a variety of intercultural experiences, including service projects.

Who goes on the trip?

Students apply to participate during the spring semester of their 6th grade year.  The application process asks students to reflect on their leadership experience and potential, their dedication to their school and community, and their ability to contribute to a positive travel experience for the group.  No Barriers evaluates the applications and a group is selected.  This group is placed in a specific Advisory class starting in 7th grade.  There are a handful of required meetings, required curriculum, and post-trip responsibilities that each participant must agree to complete.

How can my student go?

If you are the parent of a 6th grade during the 2017-2018 school year, please attend our first informational meeting in Lincoln’s auditorium on February 8, 2018 from 6:30-7:00pm.  We will go over information about the trip, the travel company, and how to apply for the 2018-2019 trip to Costa Rica.  We also invite anyone to come hear about the trip at our Community Dinner at Lincoln on February 27 (more details to come).
